Last week, we held a MongoDB workshop at 42 Málaga Fundación Telefónica designed to introduce students to one of the most widely used technologies in the NoSQL database environment. The session combined a strategic overview of the data ecosystem with hands-on exercises to understand how MongoDB works, from its architecture to query optimization.
The workshop was led by Diego Freniche, a speaker with extensive experience in technical training and development, and was structured around a highly dynamic agenda designed for learning by doing. From the welcome session with breakfast and an overview of the Modern Data Tech Stack, to the closing session with a knowledge assessment and badge registration on Credly, the day maintained a clearly practical focus geared toward real-world learning.

The workshop content was organized into short, highly focused blocks to facilitate understanding and active participation among attendees.

The first part focused on MongoDB’s architecture and the difference between the document-based and relational approaches—a key point for understanding when and why to use this type of database. The session then moved on to CRUD and query optimization, two fundamental aspects of working with data efficiently.
The day began with a welcome breakfast, designed to provide an initial opportunity for networking and to introduce the strategic context of the Modern Data Tech Stack. Next, the first session focused on an overview of MongoDB’s architecture, addressing the difference between the document-based and relational approaches to lay a solid foundation before moving on to practical exercises.
